What does the term plant blindness mean? šŸ¤”

This term refers to the fact that we often don't notice the plants in our environment šŸŒ³ and don't realise how important they are to us šŸŒŗ. Because of plant blindness, we tend to underestimate the role of plants in the ecosystem and in our lives šŸŒ. But what exactly is this phenomenon and how does it affect our relationship with nature? In this post, we'll simply explain why it's important to pay more attention to plants šŸƒ and understand their role on Earth šŸŒ±āœØ.

We as a company are particularly passionate about this issue and are actively working to combat plant blindness through our corporate programs and planting šŸŒŸ. Plants are not just part of the landscape, they are the foundation of our lives. Let's pay more attention to them and discover the wonders of nature together! šŸŒ³šŸŒøšŸŒ

Why and how does plant blindness develop? šŸ¤”

In our previous post we wrote about what the term plant blindness means. Now we will explain why this phenomenon develops. šŸŒ±

Ā

Plants are different from humans and animals in many ways. Because of their stationary nature, they have had to evolve many tricks to survive, which require a great deal of intelligence šŸŒæšŸ§ . However, they have not evolved many things that we humans take for granted, and these are the reasons for their plant blindness šŸƒ.

According to botanists James Wandersee and Elisabeth Schussler, plants don't capture our interest because we don't have a visual grip on them šŸŒæšŸ‘€. Plants have no faces, they don't move or behave in a threatening way. Our brains filter out the unnecessary data we see every day, including plants šŸ§ šŸ”. We often think that we don't depend on flora and fauna, but vice versa, they depend on us šŸŒšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø. This is one of the biggest problems in our society today.

Ā

Plant blindness starts from birth, but it could be reduced if botanical knowledge was more emphasized in school curricula šŸ“ššŸ’š. Neglecting the subject is an obstacle to developing a positive attitude towards plants and the environment šŸŒæšŸš«. It does not encourage students to learn more about plants and their environment šŸŒ³šŸ‘©ā€šŸŽ“.

For Compocity, it is of utmost importance to raise awareness of this phenomenon and actively work against it through our various programmes and planting campaigns.Ā
